I bought a tranny gear from VPW that was packaged in a box that had advertisements shredded up for cushioning. I looked at the advertisements and finally found a date on one of them - it was August, 1939!! The box appeared to have been sealed since the gear was packaged in it, so I'm thinking the gear was that old or older. Funny thing, the gear was marked with the Ford script insignia, so I guess that means the early Power Wagon tranny, or at least that gear, was used in Ford trucks, as well.
I really felt bad about destroying the box and the paper inside it, so I kept them for a while. Eventually, though, I tossed them. I also felt bad about using the gear. I felt as though I should be preserving this part because it's an antique. Anyway, it's in my transmission now, and it works well. It's being used for what it was meant for.
