I wouldn't be scared of the mileage if it's been maintained properly as it sounds like it has.
Look the truck body over, this is the weak link on the First Gen trucks.
The cabs tend to leak badly as the mileage gets up into that range. Often down in the cowl they start leaking under the wipers. Check the carpet to see if it's soaked & stinky...that's the first sign.
Rust is a big issue in the front fenders & cab.
I'd be more concerned about these factors than the automatic. The Getrag is a real lemon in the First Gen's so if you had a choice & you had to make one live, I think you'd have better luck with the 727.
If the engine has been maintained as he says it has, I think it's a safe assumption that the rest of the truck has been maintained to the same degree.
You could part that truck out for more than $4000. Even the front Dana 60 is up over $1000 these days.
Sounds like a good buy to me!
