What is an elliot axle? Sounds like you have done some serious work with your TW! I'd love to see some pics of your travels.

No disrespect intended, but personally I hate anything less than a Dana 60 rear axle in a work truck.

I have watched people work semi-floating rear axles harder than I would work a Dana 60 full-floater, but I have also seen what happens when you finally break an axle out at highway speeds under a load.

The only semi-floating axle I'll put up with is one on a car or a little SUV like my 'cruiser or 4 runner. And I would put in full-floaters in my Toyotas if I could afford it.

On the same note, I've seen people put tremendous loads, day after day, on Toyota semi-floating rear axles and they seem to get away with it.

Doesn't matter what the make of a vehicle, Toyota, Ford, Chev, IHC, or Dodge...when a non full-floating axle finally breaks, you're going to be lucky if it's at a low speed. And with a full-floater at least you can usually get home, or at least off the road, by running the front axle.
