David, some of the original A-frames, like the Eagle Pole Derrick for instance, had an additional sheave mounted lower on the main leg. With the assembly connected to the pad eyes at the front bumper, and laying forward on the ground, or slightly proped up on something, the cable from the winch was run through the sheave at the top of the main pole as usual, then around the additional sheave lower on the leg, then to the tie off connecting point above and behind the cab. Drawing in the winch cable would then raise the pole assembly where it could be tied off and the winch cable released.
