I started training a new apprentice today. I got a new turn signal switch on Santa's birthday and today was the first opportunity to install it. Joan and the 2 older kids were out, leaving me with Claire, my just turned 4 year old. I figured what the heck so we went to the shop. She sat on the passenger side as I mounted the switch to the column and then when I assumed that unnatural upside down contortion her skill really began to show. I had a box of butt connectors on the seat. I would cut a wire and strip it. Then hold my hand out and ask her for one. I couldnt see what she was doing, but I would hear her pick up the box, struggle to open it, spill them all on the seat, and put one in my hand. I would then tell her to pick up all the pieces, which she did. By the time I had a wire connected and was ready for another, we would repeat the whole process. fumble fumble, spill, hand me one, pick them up and ready to go again. There are 8 wires to do, so this kept her busy for awhile. When done, it even worked. The first time!
