If I was going to try & repair it in place I think that's the route I'd go. Brazing works well if you pre heat everything well & keep everything hot with insulation for hours afterwards. I don't think this is a good idea on an assembled engine. Will it work? Maybe but it will likely cause other problems for down the road.
Nirod is the welding rod I'd use if I were going to attempt an in frame repair & gringing a "v" & end drilling would be the way to go.
