I have a '67 chevy 292 with about a 2" crack in the water jacket that was stiched about 25 years ago. They did it without pulling the engine. It held for a few years, but I find the stitching starts to leak and I need to put a bottle of "Bars leak" in it every 3 or 4 years. It's not ideal but it's not worth doing anything better with it.
