Although James's idea isn't practical for 90% of the population, if North Americans took an interest in buying North American, soon there would be more products manufactured here & the quality would be as good as we were willing to pay for.
There's no conspiracy...manufacturers are not building factories in Asia so they can make more money...they're building shops in other countries to compete because North Americans like less expensive goods & are not bothered by poor unreliable quality. We'd rather pay someone in another land $3 per day than pay a North American $20/hr to do that job. We don't mind having our cars & trucks in the shop every other week getting fixed & we don't mind when our tools break because the benefit is they're much cheaper.
This won't affect many of us because we are all working, retired or whatever but where are all our children & grand children going to be working in the future?
When I buy anything I always buy North American if I can regardless of price. I buy every tool as though I intend it to out-last me, even if I only need it once.
I refuse to buy junk & it saddens me to see less & less quality merchandise available every day.
I really wish we could buy 2004 Power Wagon's of the same quality as the 1946 P/W's but it seems those days are over in North America unless we buy either German or Japanese vehicles. It's not because we aren't capable...just too cheap to pay for it.
