If you are serious about driving a truck until it has outlived it's useful life than the Cummins is the engine for you! It will outlast the competition, hands down (and in most cases the truck it was originally packaged in). However, most truck buyers don't keep a vehicle more than 100k even if purchased used, so this question is not as relavant. One of the clues to the durability and reputation of the cummins is the number of companies involved in converting Ford and Chevy trucks to this engine, and the absolute lack of companies involved in adapting the "other brands" to anything.
