No log home yet, just various crude timber-framed sheds on my place. I will hold off on the timber-framed house until I get my sawmill set up. I have an old American #1 and a 1920s Corinth circle saw mill, or at least the metal pieces from them, and hopefully next summer I'll be able to clear off a place and set up the mill. It will be mostly the American, but I may take one extra bunk from the Corinth to make a longer carriage. As much as I like the look and strength of round logs, they are, as you say, hell to finish around. I would like to be able to at least slab off one side of poles for rafters and joists so as to give a smooth surface for the roof decking or flooring. For now, I do a crude job when necessary with a chainsaw and chalk-line but it's not good enough for a house. I also have a very heavy old P.B.Yates 4-sided planer (molder) that should be able to make 2x T&G decking for roofs and floors. I've been using a 14' a-frame on my deuce for lifting logs, but hopefully I'll eventually get that telephone truck working and it will be easier to maneuver and easier to erect the boom.
