I THINK you read it right. I have a 1990 Dodge Sevice manual supplement for the Cummins Diesel trucks, and there was a 3.07 rear axle offered with the Cummins with the 727 Automatic. Personally, Id buy it, if its what you want. It will still pull anything. As a General rule, Automatic trucks come with a neumerical lower rear gear ratio than stick shift trucks. Remember, that automatic transmissions have a small amount of slippage in them, and also due to the way they start from a dead stop, they dont need the lower gears to build the torque as much. That truck should pull just about anything and get great mileage as well.
