parts washer stuff

What do you guys use in your parts washer as far as a cleaning fluid? My wife got me a washer for christmas and I need to get it filled.
Napa wanted 6.49 a gallon --- for a 20 gallon washer--ouch
I heard mineral spirits will work?????
