OK, now I'm trying not to get confused. Tomorrow I will start it up after connecting the oil "filter" as follows.
The IN line to the filter will go on the lower hole behind the dipstick infront of the starter motor. Just above that, the OUT line connects. Do I have that right for my 230? I think the hole in the head is for a bolt. Next to it is the water temp. sending unit. The oil pressure sending unit is on the lower block between the oil filler tube and the distributor, almost under the filler tube.
The rig is holding water after I took out the two long manifold bolts and sealed the ends with never-seeze and the shanks with permatex. It was sort of spooky watching the water weep out of manifold bolts. When I thought I had drained the system and removed one of the bolts, there was quite a gusher. I sincerely hope that the water is supposed to be at those bolt holes like that.
