There used to be a site named powerplayhemi.com, but it looks like it is being integrated with the hotheads site.
Powerplay used to have a very good description of the different hemis including serial numbers. Bellhousing configuration was also described pretty good. I seem to remember that '53&earlier were bellhousing-cast-with-block and the later ones were more traditional separate bellhousing.
