Bellhousings directly interchange between the desoto, and dodge hemis. I had a 354ci and it's a totally different beast.
I have a 270ci Dodge in a '56 D500 and it has the longer bell with a NP540 attached. I have a 291 Desoto hemi with a bell off a 325 poly attached. The bell is too long to hook up a crash box. I would have to extend the input shaft on the CB about 1" to fit it up. I think a NP 420 or 435 would boly up though I havent tried it. The 276 Desoto in the '49 B1 Power Wagon uses the original crash box transmission. I dont know how they did it, and I am scared to pull the transmission to find out how. The transmission does fit up higher in the cab than original but that has to do with the motor mounts not the transmission.
What are you up to?
