I have an old friend(originally from jersy) who is in his 70's and who I fondly refer to as "the damned yankee". We share a common love of organic gardening and economic history. He has never taken offense to the term, "yankee" but, I did see him go berserk when a Indian transplant (store owner), made an off-color remark about Americans being lazy!
