The average speed OD off was 55 with OD on level highway as fast as 70 it oulled pretty good in the mountains as long as it was not a 6 percent grade and pulled well compared to a ford power smoke on the same mountain terain. The big problem came in summers with 107 temp. and tranny heating problems I was never able to resolve there was no AC on those trips and I agree with you I have never heard any one complain on the newer transmission. The crapolet I drive for work weighs 9570 before any ammo are guns Haz Mat Equipment goes on it it is a 2000 3500 duelly with a stal covered servicebody 4wd cc with winch and older diesel and auto no powerhouse but the transmission and motor have never given me any problem since new other than a lift pump on the fuel tank never been in the shop that is pretty good for a vehicle in Police service. It has 55000. I again belive that trucks used for hauling loads do well with autos and I believe there are good trannys out there like the chevrolet one. I still like my 6 speed cause when I tow I usually tow big and heavy like the control of a manual. Merry Christmas.
