If you want to haul then you need the 6 speed. Dodge can say all they want about no problems but they have had lots of them. Our work 2000 diesel with 4:10 and an auto, smoked the transmission at 30k and that was pulling a 3-horse slant with 3 horses most days. I think most trannies were set up to shift to soft, which made more heat. The other big problem is Dodge uses plastic check balls in the transmissions, they get hot and warp and no fluid goes to the cooler. I wonder how much that plastic saved em.
