The PW web site has lots of info as well as the PW advertise site. FYI-the PWA is the oldest publication about PWs and enthuiest, this is before the internet came about in the early 80s.
Sheet metal has been a problem such as the PU bed fenders which go for up to $300 ea., headlight buckets, etc. Most sheetmetal parts come from cannablized parts trucks.
The prices are really a result of hobbiest and collectors who went crazy buying up all the NOS parts still available and using them to perfect already good condition trucks then asking top dollar for the take offs.
To many of them the PW is just a toy, hobby, or investment. My first experience with PW people were those like myself in the early 80s who most used them as work trucks and were already MoParpeople. I suggest ordering the PW tape from Vintage PWs, it is a copy of a actual 1950 Chrysler promo film for the PW,1hr.-15min. and shows them doing a multitude of diff. jobs with diff. equip.
As for price, earlier you could get a nice condition PW for $3000 or less. I never paid more than $1500 either of my trucks. The best ones to try for are the 1961-68 WM300 Firestation brush trucks, low miles, usually kept indoors, and well maintained. Goodluck
