I would go with what Russ/Wyo says about not welding your spider gears. Welded diffs or "Lincoln Lockers" as some call them are only good for a vehicle that is strictly offroad, you know, like a Field toy, demo derby car etc. If they fail they will pretty much tear your rear end out. I had Lincoln Lockers on a both front and rear of a mud bog truck, and the off road traction was sweet, but if even drove it up and down my driveway, if I turned any at all, it would just skid like crazy and handle poorly. I would never even consider a welded diff for anything I care much about or have any kind of money into. They are way too distructive when they break.
