The M-715 used the Kaiser 230 OHC sixes. I do not know if it takes the same bellhousing as the later 232, 4.0 and 258 sixes. The OHC and later sixes are TOTALLY different, I dont even think they are close to same leinth.

If a person really wanted a super performer AMC six cyl, The 4.0 has a wider bore than a 258, but the 258 has a much longer stroke. You can take a crank from a 258 and put it into a 4.0 block and in the end you have a displacement of roughly 284 CI. There is a little machine work and balance work required, but nothing too bad. It has been done with very good results.

It is too bad a Ford 300 six wont fit a Power Wagon. That is really the only engine Ford ever made I can say anything good about. I have ran dozens of them and really like em. Something else to think about for an inline six, is the Ford 250 Smallblock six used in the late '70's early 80's in cars like the Granada and Fairmont. THey have a great Power-to-weight ratio and they are much physically smaller than the 'big block' Ford 240 and 300 six.

On an interesting note, the newer AMC straight sixes were orgionally designed by GM. Just some food for thought.. I wonder why GM designed it with a Timing chain in stead of timing gears tho!

Long live the inline six!
