I believe that CJ is correct, I have looked at the Sweptline, utiline bedsides as well, I don't have a photo in front of me but it seems that I remember the side "skirt" in front of the wheel well hangs down a bit further than the 3rd series bedsides and would have to be trimmed to accomodate the running boards. I also recall that the side stamping is slightly different in this area as well. Other than that I believe that this is the only difference between the two bedsides. The bed bulkhead and tailgates are identical, the center hinge and side pivots are slightly different.
I find it interesting that now, with Dodge turning out hundreds of thousands of trucks, that there are no variations or differences between any models' sheet metal, but back when Dodge sold only 2,500 trucks of each model, they had all of these variations. Seems like they spent a lot of money that they didn't need to spend back then. But that makes out hobby more fun (?) or frustrating, during the "treasure hunt"!!
