Last year when I was at Cummins/Onan Northeast looking at Gen Sets. The GM told me that on diesel gen sets up to 20 or 24 KW
( I forget which one) a Kubota engine, specially modified for Onan is used. Above that KW rating, Cummins Engines are used on the entire line. The Gen Sets with the Kubota engines are still badged Cummins/Onan.
Still in my opinion top of the line along side KATO which uses Cummins, CAT. One big thing to always check in addition to the engine is what make generator is used.

Presently, 5 years ago in an effort to FOOLISHLY save bucks, I bought one of those China Diesel GenSets. Junk, Junk, oil, water leaks, parts not easily available. My water pump impeller broke a few months ago.
I was told they could order a new pump from China and it would take about 2 months to get. I was lucky and did find one in the states. NEVER, NEVER again will I ever buy that off shore JUNK. The price was so attractive I lost sight of reality and did not consider the long term.
