The 1952 M37 I purchased has a 24v generator and a 12v alternator
The generator support arm broke due to the added stress. I've reinforced it and it is
working fine. If I had to do it from scratch I'd get a 24v to 12v inverter for new accessories.
It would mean less moving parts. i agree with the previous comment that you should retain your 24v system.
It will start better in the winter.
