I had the first '89 CTD sold in our area. The '89 came only in a standard cab, long bed. My 3/4 did everything well including pulling the 36' triple axle gooseneck with two PW's (Howabout 1 PW and 1 WC-62 6x6?)

A few years back, I-5 north from the Bakersfield area, and I-30 (Texarkana to Little Rock) and I-40 (LR to Memphis)were terrible because the slabs were not even. Every expansion joint caused the gooseneck hitch to come down hard on the ball. It was like a jack-hammer. The hitch plate in the bed of my truck and the bed itself were hammered down an inch.

When Club Cabs (no second doors) came out, I traded for one to get the extra wheelbase. This helped immeasurably to eliminate the "Hippity Hop" highway problem.

I have pulled this trailer with a 3/4 and a 1 ton dually. No real difference there except mileage was a little worse with the dually.

The big difference and the reason I favor the longest available wheelbase is the ride.

By the way, I always use an equalizer when I pull with a receiver hitch ball.
