Hi Fred...My lit shows the 'U' designation as 'underslung' or low mount...the winches can have a standard or overhead wind or the reverse underwind. The normal PTO operating rotation is defined by the letter 'R' in the serial.This is reflected in the part numbers for the worm and pinion shafts too. 'R; means reverse wind. Thus the PW winch is the MU-2R or Mechanical (meaning PTO) Underslung 2 (8000 lb) Reverse wind. anyway..so much for details...
