My old M880 in Texas had bad connections at the firewall. The wiring harness for the engine compartment plugged into the firewall right in front of the steering wheel. After a few underdash fires and replacing almost EVERY electrical component in the truck (some twice!), I finally tracked my problem down to the plug-ins. They're plastic, and over the years the little clips that keep things plugged in well, got brittle and were breaking and chipping, allowing just enough space to start things arcing. Arcs and sparks are good for spark plugs, bad for the rest of the electrical system! Just something else for you to check out. Good luck figuring it out!
