Chrysler makes a pilot bushing for this application, I have friends who have installed them (mostly in situations where a car motor was put in a 4 speed truck), and they have used them for years without trouble.

My guess would be the hole bored in the auto crank is centered, it would need to be to provide the correct location for the final cleanup cut.

Remember, any company will do things to save money and time, and if you start with all cranks the same it might save money and time.

Thus a auto crank would have a concentric hole, most likely bored nice and clean, but a tiny bit smaller then the cut made for a stick crank. Basicly one step was skipped, but it does not mean you have to do that step yourself.

Just my thoughts, though I agree if the hole was not concentric it would be VERY important to have the cleanup cut made.
