If I am correct there is no difference between the two except the shear pin. There are two shear pin diameters. Not sure when the change took place. Go to the VPW site and you can see that they have 2 sizes of pins 1/4 and 5/16. They only state early and late model on the ff PW for fittment. There is no distinction on anyother parts except the shaft that the pin goes through. It is the same shaft just a larger hole drilled in it. Guess they figured that they had under rated the winch and decided to raise its pull capacity with a different shear pin.
