wwii dodge / powerwagon steering column help

need help in restoring the threads on the end of my steering column. i used the proper puller and insert (thanks john) to remove the wheel. problem is that the force mushroomed the end of the shaft. i have filed it down a bit to get past the mushroom, but i am having a difficult time getting the nut to thread. does anyone know the shaft size and thread pitch on this one? id buy the right die to clean it up if i knew the particulars. any help here? what have you guys done to combat this problem?
