I believe the pressure put out by the pump is only in the range of 3-5 lbs. I have never tried a pressure test with my fingers over the ports. I know that when I have taken a pump off an engine, and the sediment bowl is still full of fuel, moving the lever just a little bit will result in a squirt of gas out the port to the carb.
