I'm not so sure your Unimog plans were exactly what Paul had in mind...although I do agree the mog is VERY difficult to improve upon in most areas.
One thing I do think that would be very interesting to see is the instalation of a new Mercedes diesel in a P/W.
I'm told they are a fantastic power plant & if I'm not mistaken I think they've developed a 5 cylinder that might just fit our limited space application.
I'm not sure what transmissions etc are available but knowing Mercedes they have several excellent & expensive choices!
One thing is for sure...if you went with a diesel & were going to all this work I'd go with a computer controled diesel that was quiet, powerful & no smoke.
Front & rear Dana 70's with 6 bolt budd wheels. Transfer case? Not sure...I guess it depends on a few other factors like what's available with the transmission but I still think divorced T-case works fine.
I guess it all just depends whether you want it to be a sleeper or to have full hydraulics & huge crazy tires. I like the stock look with fully modified underneath approach.
