These scammers are using cashier's checks because until recently the banks assumed they were good, since they were drawn on another bank, and cleared the funds immediately. The 419-ers started making official-looking counterfeit cashier's checks and a lot of banks got stuck, as well as the customers. Don't believe a checkis good just because it looks like a cashier's check drawn on a big bank. Wait till it clears, and if your bank wants to clear it immediately, tell them you're suspicious and you want to know when it's really good.
