For better or worse, it's getting tougher to go off-road because of groups lobbying to protect this and that. You responded well!! Had you taken a different route that may have been disrespectful towards the investigators, they would have a less than positive attitude toward you next year. You made a good impression with them and I recommend that when you plan the next trail ride, you invite them to the planning meeting to help establishing the “ground rules,” to ensure everyone’s interest is met. Although some may take exception to my comments, if you work with them, they will be your allies in future events!
