Doug, keep in mind that the local cable and sling company (they supply Alcoa Aluminum, Caterpiller Tractor, and the local U.S. goverment arsenal)told me, when I went in for 7/16" cable for my MU2, that 7/16" fiber core plow steel cable was never meant to bend to the small radius required to fit a bare MU2 drum. Wire core would need even a larger diameter bare drum, 1/2" cable would require even larger, and stainless 1/2" even larger yet.

I have nothing to back this up, only their experience and knowlege. But, I guess, if you are going mostly for looks, anything will work. On MU2 winches that I am planning to use on a regular basis, I stick with 7/16" fiber core.

Clint
