Called the Lubriplate tech line and spoke to the lube guru about semi-fluid chassis lube and worm drive gear oils. On the issue of phosphor bronze gears used in the Braden winches he recommended a specific oil available in quart or gallon sizes that meets the AGMA EP7 rating specified by Braden. The Lubriplate oil type is SPO 277, it's a ISO 460 grade - 140 weight oil. The quart part# is L0247-013 and gallon size is L0247-007. On the subject of semi-fluid chassis lube the preferred product for closed knuckle is the #1500 grease, the only problem is it is only available in 35lb pails. That being the case he recommended the oil specified for the Braden worm housing be used in the closed knuckle and that the SPO 277 product is entirely suitable for replacement of a semi-fluid chassis lube provided the seals retain the lube in the housing....so the felt wipers might not do the trick if the gear oil is used instead of the #1500 Lubriplate grease.
