Mark I bought a tandem axle truck for a dump truck and had it shortened. They moved the axles forward and cut the excess off the rear. This involves drilling holes but is much stronger than cutting and splicing the frame. A good truck shop can do this in a short time plus take care of shortening and balancing the driveshaft as well as all the other little details that crop up. I would recommend this over cutting ahead of the axle plus this maintains keeping everything aligned. Think it over please.
