Around the shipyard here that's what they cut the large "D" rubber bumpers with is a chainsaw. I was uncomfortable with it myself but I've been watching them do it for over 25 years & haven't seen any accidents yet!
I'm not so sure it would be too good for your chain hitting the rim mind you! Ha Ha!
