Charging an 8 volt battery, and voltage changeover...

Well I went out to hook up the charger to the 56 PW, and I found it has an 8 volt battery.

My charger only has settings for 6 and 12 volt, is there a way to use my charger, or do I need a special charger for 8 volt batteries?

Also, my truck is late 1956 C-3 production, (C-3 ending serial number is 83949000 and mine is 83948098) reading Joe's notable changes, it shows 55 being the first year for 12 Volt, but this is a 56, and it is still 6 volt.

Anyone else find the same thing? Does anyone know when the changeover was made???
