You can pull the dist and turn it to where it would be for #1 and note the posision of the bottom of the shaft. Then pull the oil pump and look at the part that lines up with the dist bottom. Turn it the same angle. Note how the shaft will turn as it goes in and turn the gear enough so that when you install the pump and the gear turns on the Cam it will be close. Then install the dist in the hole see where the rotor points. Should be close, if not pull pump again turn the pump gear which ever way needed to line it up. Then you can use the adjustment on the dist to bring it into time. Mark H.
