445 is newer (1970s-80s) with synchro shift into first gear as well as 2-3-4, 435 is older with synchro 2-3-4 but not into first. The 445's I've seen have 1 inch diameter fine spline (23?) input shaft and have a 4.56 (or thereabouts) 1st gear ratio. The the 435 comes in different gear ratios (6.68 or 4.56 1st gear, etc.) and with different size input shafts.
