I drained the LU-2 on my 70 W300 and found that there were no more than a few drops of oil in it, despite having the drain plug almost parallel with the ground. I refilled it with 56 oz. of John Deere Corn Head Grease, per Vintage's recommendation. Before this service, in 3rd or 4th gear, loaded or unloaded, it would make a rythmic grinding noise. I hoped that the grease would fix this, but so far it has not. I have not been able to engage the winch clutch (no one was around to help) but I don't think this will make a difference. What are the possible causes of this noise and how do I fix it? Also, how full should the winch drum be with grease?
