I just took a look at the ebay listing.

So, it's not a "pump & run" (ability to pump while moving) It has an instruction plate that says "Pump in Neutral" Therefore, it's not a true brush truck, at least in the sense that we in the NE know them. In the pump and run mode, a pump will only be turning as fast as the engine, which will be running at the normal RPM's for whatever gear it's in. (The pump input shaft is direct-coupled, via a flexible coupling, to the engine's main shaft)

The pump looks substantial, for the size of the engine. The engine will be running full bore while pumping, and the truck will be standing still, therefore no air other than fan-pushed air, passing through the radiator. Therefore I stand by my previous assessment, that the tank water is used to cool the engine. This is a common arrangement on most fire apparatus.

As for the priming, an oil reservoir is used, and the engine exhaust provides the pressure to start the operation. The oil does indeed foam up.
