Gents,

Have not talked to you all in forever.

Hope everyone is well. Been working on a non-PW project - (tractors). Planning to pull the engine out of my 52 FF Civi PW within the next 2-3 weeks. Removing sheet metal and everything else necessary to get it out. Will be removing cab too - but hoping to get the engine out without taking the cab off - at least at this time. The engine rebuild will be my fall project. Question: The stand in the service manuals looks like a shop special. I assume that the flathead 6 will mount to an everyday stand from Northern Tool and Hydraulics? I was thinking the 1200 lb. model. How much will the engine weigh with the tranny removed? Kind of silly - but just have not mounted an engine to a stand other than an old 350. Engine will mount at back of block like any other right. Sure looks like it will be a lot of weight cantelevered off of the stand. Anyone have experience with this engine.

Can't wait to begin the engine teardown. Have a shop lined up for the machining. They will dip the block to clean it and again to check for cracks. It will likely take me all fall and winter to rebuild it. Have done 3 tractor engines but kept them in the frame. They had sleeves - and only on site machining was honing. This engine is a new ball game for me. Recently - I found the 230 engine rebuild for that Plymouth - (Joe added as a link). Has anyone found any good pictures of the rebuild of a 230 or similar engine? Maybe my answer related to the stand is in those pictures.

Regards,

Cliff
