If you're looking to stay overnight, better start checking with the various places in the area. Early Oct is popular in Vermont for foliage so you want to be sure to get a reservation. The link below lists many but not all place to stay. The closest is the Clarion Cavendish Point, and the farthest is Salt Ash Inn and Echo Lake Inn at 20 minutes away. A search on VT accomodations will turn up many more. Any Ludlow place is close by.
