dealerships might have the best technicans, but the best mechanics are those that can use their knowledge and skills to think outside the box and do things not found in a dodge manual or training seminar. most dealerships have their technicans on a commission basis and they are incentivised to change parts & get stuff out the door. there is a place for both types of trades, but i prefer the ability to rebuild the basic componets of a vehicle instead of use & replace. thats why i like old iron. my dealership technician that works on my gmc yukon is old enough to be a mechanic and young enough to embrace new technology. the combo of the two is what has kept my truck on the road.
