Drew is correct. 5.83's were normal with 900-16's and in later years all that were available. If you ever see one with 700-16's, crawl under it and wire brush the angled flat spot under the differential fill plug on the right side of the pumpkin. They are often stamped with the ratio, although I would be surprised if you find anything beyons the early 50's with the 4.89's. I found a 49 this way with 4.89's. The wheels for 700-16's have more offset to be able to dual them as well, leaving another clue as to the existence of the elusive 4.89's. I personally believe that the 5.83's are better if you keep the flathead and can find 38" tires. With repowers (V-8), the 4.89's and 38" tires are perfect. This after 4 years with a 350 powered C1 with 11-16 Michelins and 4.89's. The six and 5.83's previously. Hope this helps.
