I saw Jim bescheinen's Power Wagon in Nebraska that has a 5.7L Olds V8 diesel and a power steering box on the frame rail where the top left front shock mount is. He therefore doesn't have a left front shock, and I think it would interefere with a PTO winch. I could have done something similar to my M37 and the system you described by using u-joints and putting a box on the outside or top of the frame. I honestly was fearful that the steering would be numb, maybe wildly overcorrecting, with no center feel. I'm really pleasantly surprised that it's not overboosted, has center feel and return-to-center (maybe the 4 degree caster wedges are doing some good); the only unusual sensation is that it takes just a smidgen of extra force at the beginning of a turn to actuate the valve, but it's hardly noticeable. It gets me thinking, maybe I should put a power steering pump on my BJ40 diesel Landcruiser...
