With the ignition switch on, take a test light and place one wire on the wire coming from the switch to the coil and the place the other wire to a ground. If the light lights, then your getting current to the coil. If the light does not light, then your not getting current from the switch and could be a bad switch or broken wire.

With the cap off, open the points and connect a test light wire to the point's arm and the other to ground. If the light lights, then you probably need to replace the points and condensor. If no light, then probably the coil. I'm not familar with the M37, hope this will help.
