I wonder how many axles broke, only because they were scored??
Serious offroading always brings out the weakest link in the drivetrain. Often modifying or strengthening that component just moves the problem downstream to another weak link,...that is the fun of off roading, building a 42 million pound unbreakable rig! ha!ha! I puposely run the cheap $29 Warn aluminum front hubs in my CJ, they are much easier to change on the trail than pulling out the front half shaft. I have the repair down to about 15 mins.
